The Supreme Court has unanimously rejected 11 fundamental rights petitions seeking an order invalidating the gazette notification on the cremation of corpses infected with the virus.
The petitions were heard by a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Murdu Fernando and Preethi Padman Surasena on Monday, November 30th and Tuesday, December 01st.
Attorneys-at-Law MA Sumanthiran, Faizer Mustapha, Saliya Peiris and Nisham Kariyapper appeared for the petitioners. That no evidence has been uncovered.
Announcing the verdict after considering the petitions, Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya has stated in open court that all the petitions will be rejected with the consent of the majority of the three-judge bench.
