Sri Lanka’s export firms are allowed to operate during tighter movement controls announced after May 13, without workers residing in strict lockdown areas, the island’s Export Development Board said.

The export-oriented industries are allowed to function within a bio-secure bubble by ensuring secure transport and accommodation for workers under the close supervision of area Medical Officer of Health, the EDB said.

Agricultural activities were also permitted normal operations with strong compliance, Distance, Respiratory Etiquette, Aseptic technique, Mask (DREAM) practices.

Companies within areas which are under strict isolation/lockdown can also operated but with workers from outside the areas.

“..[E]xport enterprises in lockdown areas have been given permission to function, however; employees residing in lockdown areas shall not report to work,” the EDB said.

“The companies are advised to adhere to the relevant revised operational guidelines on preparedness and response for COVID-19 outbreak for manufacturing/apparel industry and health guidelines…”

Though inter-provincial travel was restricted from May 13 till May 31, transporting cargo to and from ports and airports are allowed subject to proof.
